Education Ministry uses Industrialised Building System to build 127 schools, cutting construction time and easing classroom overcrowding nationwide
BUKIT MERTAJAM: School construction using the Industrialised Building System (IBS) is a catalyst for change in tackling nationwide overcrowding.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the initiative, implemented with the Public Works Department, saw most works completed within months after starting in May.
“This initiative is among the ministry’s key reforms in the development of national education infrastructure,” she said after a project handover ceremony.
She added that IBS construction directly impacts the ministry’s ability to address school overcrowding faster and more effectively.
The project involves 127 construction sites nationwide, with 70 located in overcrowding hotspot Selangor.
The short construction period proves the approach is both practical and effective for wider implementation.
Fadhlina said the Ministry of Education plans a larger-scale implementation next year.
It will ensure completed facilities and classrooms are fully utilised starting with the new school session. – Bernama
