Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan visits the US for a Critical Minerals Ministerial to boost bilateral cooperation and supply chain resilience.

KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan (pic) will undertake a working visit to the United States from February 3 to 4.

He is attending the Critical Minerals Ministerial in Washington, D.C., at the invitation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The Foreign Ministry said the visit is an important opportunity to strengthen bilateral engagement, particularly in critical minerals cooperation.

This cooperation is seen as crucial for supporting sustainable economic growth and building resilient supply chains.

During the visit, Mohamad is scheduled to meet with his counterparts to discuss areas of mutual interest.

The discussions will explore avenues for investment, joint research, and industrial collaboration in critical minerals.

The visit will intensify efforts under the Malaysia-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, elevated in October 2025.

It will also build upon a recent Memorandum of Understanding on diversifying global critical minerals supply chains.

These efforts aim to advance sustainable and mutually beneficial collaboration in the strategically important sector.

In 2025, Malaysia’s total trade with the US increased by 13% to RM367.47 billion.

Exports to the US grew by 17.2% to RM233.08 billion, while imports rose by 6.4% to RM134.39 billion.
