Malaysia’s semiconductor strategy secures RM59.85 billion in investments

The National Semiconductor Strategy has attracted nearly RM60 billion in investments, with a focus on moving into high-value front-end manufacturing.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS) has successfully drawn RM59.85 billion in realised investments from January 2024 to September 2025.

Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin (pic) said the total comprises RM56.8 billion in foreign direct investment and RM3.05 billion in domestic direct investment.

“This performance reflects investors’ confidence in the direction of the industry outlined by the NSS,” he said during a Dewan Negara session.

He explained that the NSS is now in active implementation, focusing on strengthening high-tech value chains and developing skilled human capital.

A key strategic focus is shifting Malaysia’s position from back-end activities to high-value front-end work like integrated circuit design and wafer manufacturing.

“In line with this aspiration, the development of Negeri Sembilan Semiconductor Valley (NSSV) has been integrated into the NSS as a new growth engine in Phase 1,” Sim added.

NSSV, designated as Parcel F within the Malaysia Vision Valley 2.0 corridor, is gazetted as a premier zone for a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem.

The government has allocated nearly RM2 billion in the 2026 budget to support the NSS’s full implementation.
