Sabah minister pledges immediate aid for flood-hit Menggatal school

Sabah education minister orders immediate delivery of furniture and IT equipment to SK Rampayan in Menggatal before new school term starts.

KOTA KINABALU: Immediate assistance will be extended to Sekolah Kebangsaan Rampayan in Menggatal, which was affected by recent floods.

Sabah Education, Science, and Technology Minister Datuk James Ratib said he has instructed the State Education Department to provide 300 units of tables and chairs, 10 computers, a printer, and about 40 sets of teachers’ furniture.

“All aid and replacement equipment must be delivered immediately and sent to the school before the opening of the new school session on Monday next week, to ensure students’ comfort, safety and uninterrupted learning,” he said.

James made the statement after inspecting the flood damage at the school to ensure the continuity of students’ schooling would not be affected.

Monitoring findings revealed damage to student furniture, IT equipment, and facilities in the teachers’ room.

He expressed appreciation to the JPNS for its swift action in coordinating assistance, and to the Fire and Rescue Department, police, and district education office for their cleaning and repair efforts.

“Apart from SK Rampayan, several other schools have also been identified as being affected by the floods,” he added.

The ministry will continue to monitor the situation and provide appropriate assistance based on current needs.

James also said government-linked companies under the ministry would be mobilised to provide immediate assistance as additional support for repair efforts.
