Selangor boosts funding to resolve strata housing issues and titles

Selangor allocates RM5 million for upgrades and a special fund to expedite strata titles, tackling long-standing housing issues and redevelopment

SHAH ALAM: Selangor is intensifying efforts to resolve long-standing stratified housing issues through three key focus areas.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state is tackling strata ownership, infrastructure upgrades and community social development.

He said the fundamental challenge is delayed strata ownership due to some developers failing their obligations.

“In 2026, we estimate that strata issues at 10 apartment areas will be resolved,” he said at a ceremony here today.

Amirudin said without strata titles, residents miss benefits and the state cannot implement parcel rent effectively.

To expedite titles, the state has set aside a special fund to accelerate surveying and legal processes.

The Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) is coordinating this work.

For resident comfort, the Ceria Scheme allocation for infrastructure upgrades will rise to RM5 million next year.

“Each year, we usually allocate three to four million, but next year we are increasing it to RM5 million,” he said.

The scheme covers essential repairs to lifts, sewerage systems and electrical wiring.

The state’s approach also includes improving community development through social programmes.

Amirudin said issues extend beyond broken lifts or clogged drains to social challenges and community conflicts.

“That is why we are introducing social programmes to rebuild community spirit,” he said.

The state is also prepared to implement redevelopment projects for old apartments built since the 1970s.

LPHS and local authorities will deliver the redevelopment of one or two aged housing areas by 2027.

Amirudin said this involves relocating residents, high costs and comprehensive planning.

He said the state is determined to ensure older urban neighbourhoods do not deteriorate.

This is especially relevant as several local authorities advance towards city status. – Bernama
