Malaysian Consulate coordinates evacuation for stranded citizens in flooded Hat Yai as waters recede to knee level, with 4,000 affected but safe
HAT YAI: All Malaysians stranded at hotels due to flooding have been advised to wait in their hotel lobbies to facilitate temporary evacuation to safer areas.
The Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla stated that coordination efforts with local authorities have begun and will be carried out soon.
The Consulate Office requested cooperation from all affected Malaysians to ensure the evacuation process runs smoothly.

Malaysian Consul General Ahmad Fahmi Ahmad Sarkawi said they are doing their utmost to move citizens from flooded areas to safer locations.
“Rain is still falling in Hat Yai, but the floodwaters have receded from chest level yesterday to knee level today,” he told Bernama.
He confirmed that food assistance and evacuation efforts are being carried out with local authorities’ help.
A special team has been established at the Consulate Office to gather information on all Malaysian victims and their accommodation locations.
Ahmad Fahmi visited a plant-based meal preparation centre with Hatyai-Songkhla Hotels Association President Dr Sitthipong Sitthiprapha.
Sitthipong said 2,000 hot plant-based meals had been delivered by truck to victims stranded at several hotels.
“Although the water has begun to recede, rain continues to fall,” he explained.
He noted that light rain still poses challenges in moving all victims out of Hat Yai city by truck.
Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry reported approximately 4,000 Malaysians in Hat Yai and nearby areas were affected by the floods.
All affected Malaysians were reported safe according to yesterday’s statement. – Bernama
