GRS candidate pledges more youth jobs in Semporna’s tourism sector

GRS candidate Noorudin Abdul Hussin vows to create local youth jobs in Semporna’s tourism industry, addressing concerns over non-local employment.

SEMPORNA: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate for the Bugaya state seat, Noorudin Abdul Hussin, has reaffirmed his commitment to creating more job opportunities for the youth in Semporna.

This commitment is in line with the district’s potential as a key tourism destination, known for its natural beauty and islands, including Pulau Sipadan, Pulau Mabul, Pulau Kapalai, Pulau Bohey Dulang and Pulau Mataking.

Noorudin, 39, a native of Semporna, said that the tourism industry, which is a cornerstone of the district’s economy, should provide substantial benefits to the local community, especially by offering employment opportunities to local youth.

“There have been complaints from local youth about job opportunities being taken by non-locals. We want priority to be given to the local community, particularly the youth,” he told Bernama.

As the GRS Bugaya Youth chief, Noorudin highlighted the importance of empowering Semporna’s youth to better compete in an increasingly competitive job market.

With 50 per cent of Bugaya’s population being youth, Noorudin emphasised the need to prioritise them for employment in a district that continues to attract both local and international tourists.

In addition to his focus on tourism, Noorudin aims to develop the agriculture and livestock industries, which have long been important to the Bugaya community. This will help open up more job opportunities in various sectors.

He noted that under the MADANI government, a range of initiatives and support programmes have been introduced to assist small-scale farmers and livestock breeders, benefiting the people of Bugaya.

Noorudin is confident that the people of Bugaya, who are eager for change and ongoing development, will place their trust in him during the upcoming 17th Sabah state election.

Bugaya, one of the three state constituencies in the Semporna parliamentary area, has 36,559 registered electors for the 17th Sabah state election. The other two constituencies are Sulabayan and Senallang.

Polling is fixed for Nov 29, with early voting on Nov 25.
