The Amanah 2025 Convention turned tense when a delegate from Selangor opposed the motion to postpone the party polls for 2026.
SHAH ALAM: The Amanah 2025 Convention turned tense when a delegate from Selangor opposed the motion to postpone the party polls for 2026.
The objection came from Hulu Langat delegate Ir Rusman Abu Samah, who interrupted the convention’s proceedings today.
“Five delegates raised that the party elections should continue next year, while four opposed holding the elections. So why was the motion to postpone the elections accepted?” he told theSun.
Earlier, when Amanah vice-president Mohd Hatta Ramli was about to conclude today’s convention, Rusman rose questioning why the party decided to acknowledge the motion to postpone the party election.
“So I want to ask, why did the leadership decide this way, when there are nine motions — five in favor of holding Amanah’s party elections in 2026 as scheduled, and four proposing to postpone them?
I want to know why the National Committee chose these nine motions as proposed motions, when the National Convention is the highest authority under the party constitution.
If we refer to the constitution, the National Committee is below the convention. The National Committee should follow what the convention decides, not the other way around,” he said, drewing support from other delegates.
Rusman said that most party members wouldn’t mind the party leadership adopting trivial motions, but not something as big as party election.
“As a party that is inclusive, progressive, and brings rahmatan lil alamin (mercy to all), why aren’t we applying those same principles here? Delegates have the right to express the rights of members.
So it’s unfair to us as delegates, because this issue should be discussed, debated, and decided at the National Convention.”
Other delegates from Pokok Sena and Port Dickson then stood up and suppported Rusman’s stand.
Hatta then explain that no decision was made to postpone the party election, saying that any decision will only be made during Amanah convention next year.
