BN deputy chairman says youth support will be key in Sabah polls, noting shift in young voter attitudes toward government policies.
KIMANIS: Barisan Nasional believes independent youth voters will be decisive in the upcoming Sabah state election.
BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said young voters are increasingly open-minded and make decisions based on their needs rather than party loyalty.
“These young people have no allegiance to any party,” he told reporters after visiting several district polling centres.
Mohamad noted that BN lost significant youth support during the 15th general election but regained it in subsequent by-elections.
“Our victories with significant majorities were largely due to the support of young voters,” he said.
This backing reflects a shift in attitude among young voters recognising government policies that secure their future.
During visits to Putatan, Membakut and Bongawan constituencies, Mohamad observed strong enthusiasm among BN grassroots supporters.
The Election Commission set November 15 as nomination day for the state election.
Early voting will occur on November 25 with polling on November 29.
Undi18 implementation in December 2021 automatically registered citizens aged 18 and above as voters.
The upcoming election will be the first real test of young voter trends in determining Sabah’s political direction. – Bernama
