Selangor government obtains seven acres from a developer to build apartments as a permanent solution for Jalan Papan urban settlers
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor state government will proceed with a long-term housing solution for Jalan Papan urban settlers after securing land from developer Melati Ehsan Consolidated Sdn Bhd.
State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah confirmed the developer agreed to hand over seven acres of land following negotiations.
This commitment was formalised after an official letter was sent to the developer on November 11.
The land transfer stems from a meeting between the developer and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari on October 21.
“With the seven acres handed over, the state government is capable of drafting the development of an apartment building as a long-term solution for affected settlers,” Borhan said.
MECSB has also agreed to hand over several lots along Jalan Papan and Jalan Kerayong to relocate houses of worship.
Borhan stated the government is on a clearer track to ensure a just, planned, and humane solution for the settlers.
Other commitments from the developer include suspending demolitions of occupied houses until the land handover is finalised.
The handover is a vital step for enabling a more organised and sustainable resettlement process.
The state government is ready to offer temporary housing through the Smart Rental Scheme at an affordable rate.
“The state government’s commitment is clear, no settler will be left without temporary housing till a permanent solution is found and finalised,” he added. – Bernama
