Sabah PH appoints Ruji Ubi as secretary in leadership revamp

Sabah Pakatan Harapan restructures its leadership, appointing former secretary-general Ruji Ubi as secretary ahead of the next general election.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) today announced a restructuring of the coalition’s leadership to strengthen its machinery ahead of the next General Election (GE).

Sabah PH chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said the restructuring saw former Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Ruji (pic) Ubi being appointed as the coalition’s secretary.

“This restructuring is made to leverage the experience of senior figures, especially Datuk Ruji who, as we know, has served as secretary-general in several ministries.

“We hope he can assist in the operational aspects of PH and, as we already know, we will will be facing the GE,” he told reporters after the Sabah PH 2025 Annual General Meeting here today.

Apart from the Home Ministry, Ruji also served as secretary-general at the Ministry of National Unity, Ministry of Education and was PH’s candidate for the Merotai state seat at the 17th Sabah State Election.

Mustapha said the meeting also retained him as Sabah PH chairman, while Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe and Sabah Amanah chairman Datul Lahirul Latigu remained as deputy chairmen.

Also appointed to the new committee were Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Chan Foong Hin as Sabah PH Information director and Sabah Amanah assistant secretary Irwan Shah Mustapha as treasurer.

Several others who also retained their positions were Datuk Jannie Lasimbang as as Sabah PH women’s chief, Zaidi Jatil as Youth chief and Datuk Peto Galim as election director.

Elaborating, Mustapha said Sabah PH is currently in a phase of strengthening its machinery preparedness at all levels to ensure the coalition’s operations are more structured and effective.

He said Sabah PH also intends to defend the seats won by the coalition in the last general election, but this is subject to the decision and negotiations of the party leadership.

“Sabah PH is currently in a phase of enhancing its preparedness for the upcoming election, including strengthening the party machinery at all levels,” he added.
