BALIK PULAU: Police have arrested a senior citizen and seized 30 bitcoin mining machines in a raid on premises using illegal electrical connections.
Southwest district police chief ACP Anuwal Ab Wahab said a joint operation with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) inspected the area on Jalan Air Putih last night.
The inspection revealed the premises were equipped with bitcoin mining machines operating through stolen electricity.
A TNB review estimated the losses from the electricity theft at RM22,744.
Police arrested a 60-year-old local man at the scene.
Authorities also confiscated 30 bitcoin mining machines and a TP-Link modem unit.
The case is being investigated under Section 37(1) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990 and Section 427 of the Penal Code.
“Police are conducting a thorough investigation including tracking down the suspects involved in the case,” Anuwal said in a statement.
He urged the public to report any suspicious activities, especially involving electricity theft.
