Elon Musk debuts at Davos with humanoid robot sales forecast

Elon Musk predicts his Optimus robots will go on sale to the public next year and AI will surpass human intelligence by 2026 at his first Davos talk.

DAVOS: Elon Musk made his debut appearance at the World Economic Forum on Thursday, delivering a series of optimistic forecasts for artificial intelligence and robotics.

The tech mogul predicted his Optimus humanoid robots would be available for public purchase by the end of next year.

“Who wouldn’t want a robot to watch over your kids, take care of your pet… If you had a robot that could take care and protect an elderly parent, that’d be great,” he told the audience.

Musk stated the robots would be capable of more complex tasks later this year.

He also forecast that AI models would become smarter than any single human by the end of this year or next.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO projected AI would exceed the collective intelligence of all humanity by around 2030 or 2031.

His remarks came during a conversation with WEF interim chair and BlackRock CEO Larry Fink.

Musk has previously criticised the annual Davos gathering as a “boring” conference for out-of-touch elites.

The discussion did not address controversies surrounding AI deepfakes from his Grok tool or misinformation on his X platform.

He concluded his talk by advocating for an optimistic outlook on technological progress.

“Generally, I think that for quality of life, it is actually better to err on the side of being an optimist and wrong, rather than being a pessimist and right,” Musk said.
