Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 earns $63 million in North America, topping the box office despite poor reviews, while Zootopia 2 takes second place
LOS ANGELES: Horror video-game sequel “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” debuted at the top of the North American box office.
The Universal film earned an estimated $63 million from Friday to Sunday, according to Exhibitor Relations.
It added another $46 million from international markets.
“The audience score is more important, and it’s very good for a horror picture, although not as good as the first pic,” said David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research.
Disney’s animated sequel “Zootopia 2” slid to second place with $43 million in its second weekend.
The film has now earned a domestic total of $220 million and is nearing $1 billion worldwide.
Universal’s “Wicked: For Good” dropped one spot to third, earning $16.8 million in its third weekend.
The musical is the second chapter retelling the story of Oz’s witches Elphaba and Glinda.
Anime film “JUJUTSU KAISEN: Execution” landed in fourth place with a $10.2 million debut.
Lionsgate’s heist film “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” rounded out the top five with $3.5 million. – AFP
