Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi quotes ‘Attack on Titan’ to tell investors to “shut your mouths and invest” at a major economic conference in Tokyo.
TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi used a famous manga quote to make a forceful pitch for investment at a major economic forum.
Addressing the FII PRIORITY Asia 2025 conference on Monday, she concluded her speech with a line from the popular series “Attack on Titan”.
“Just shut your mouths. And invest everything in me!!” Takaichi told the audience.
She prefaced the quote by acknowledging the popularity of Japanese manga and anime in Saudi Arabia, naming titles like “Captain Tsubasa”, “One Piece”, and “Demon Slayer”.
The conference is a spinoff of Saudi Arabia’s annual Future Investment Initiative, often called “Davos in the Desert”.
Takaichi, who took office in October, faces pressure to attract foreign investment to stimulate Japan’s economy, the world’s fourth-largest, which contracted last quarter.
The two-day Tokyo event also featured SoftBank Group founder Masayoshi Son, who expressed regret over selling shares in US chip giant Nvidia.
“I don’t want to sell a single share,” Son said, according to Bloomberg News.
He explained the sale was necessary to raise money for investments in OpenAI and other ventures, stating, “I was crying to sell Nvidia shares.”
