Macron condemns Trump’s tariff threats over Greenland purchase

French President Emmanuel Macron warns of a united European response to US tariff threats linked to Donald Trump’s bid to acquire Greenland.

PARIS: French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday denounced US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on European countries opposing his efforts to acquire Greenland.

“Tariff threats are unacceptable and have no place in this context,” Macron posted on X.

He warned that Europeans would respond in a united and coordinated manner should the threats be confirmed.

“We will ensure that European sovereignty is upheld,” Macron added.

The French president stated he would engage with European partners in this spirit.

Trump said that from February, several European nations would be subject to 10% tariffs.

These tariffs are set to rise to 25% on June 1, until he can complete his acquisition of the Danish territory.
