Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is in contact with her father Thomas Markle, who is hospitalised in the Philippines, her spokesperson confirms.
MANILA: The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan, is in contact with her estranged father Thomas Markle, who is hospitalised in the Philippines, her spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday.
Markle reportedly had his leg amputated and told The Daily Mail he wished to see his daughter “one more time before I die”.
He also expressed a desire to see Prince Harry and his grandchildren “before it’s too late”.
Meghan’s spokesperson stated it had been “exceedingly difficult for the duchess to contact her father privately, despite her efforts over the past several days”.
The spokesperson added that “with the support of reliable and trusted contacts, her correspondence is now safely in his hands”.
However, the spokesperson noted Markle “continues” to have a reporter by his hospital bedside “broadcasting every interaction”.
This situation initially made it difficult for Meghan’s letter to reach him.
The confirmation follows conflicting reports last week about whether contact had been established.
Meghan cut ties with her father after he staged a photo shoot with paparazzi just before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.
The couple stepped back from royal duties and moved to California in 2020.
In 2021, Meghan won a UK High Court privacy claim against the Daily Mail’s publisher over a private letter she wrote to her father.
