Meta appoints ex-Trump advisor Dina Powell McCormick as president

Mark Zuckerberg names banker and former Trump official Dina Powell McCormick as Meta’s president to lead its global AI infrastructure strategy.

SAN FRANCISCO: Meta has appointed banker and former Trump administration official Dina Powell McCormick as its president and vice chairman.

The move aims to steer the technology giant’s massive artificial intelligence infrastructure expansion.

Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Powell McCormick’s global finance experience makes her “uniquely suited to help Meta manage this next phase of growth.”

In a separate post, Zuckerberg stated she will focus on “partnering with governments and sovereigns to build, deploy, invest in, and finance Meta’s AI and infrastructure.”

The appointment comes as Meta accelerates multi-billion-dollar investments in AI data centres and energy supply.

Powell McCormick will guide the overall AI infrastructure strategy and oversee these investments.

She will also focus on building partnerships to expand the company’s investment capacity.

An Egyptian-American, she spent 16 years as a partner at Goldman Sachs, leading its global sovereign investment banking business.

Sovereign wealth funds from the Middle East are major investors in AI infrastructure and could aid Meta’s spending goals.

Her last role was at BDT & MSD Partners, a bank involved in finding US investors for TikTok.

Her hiring continues Zuckerberg’s political pivot towards conservative figures and positions.

Former President Donald Trump congratulated her, calling her “a fantastic, and very talented, person.”

Powell McCormick served as deputy national security advisor during Trump’s first term.

She is married to Republican senator from Pennsylvania, Dave McCormick.
