PROVIDENCE: Multiple people were shot on Saturday at Brown University, a prestigious Ivy League school in Rhode Island.
A Providence city official confirmed the shooting, while the Associated Press reported at least two people were killed.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and other federal officials were on the scene, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi.
The university described the incident as an “active shooter” situation on its website.
As of 5.11pm ET, no suspects were in police custody.
Other news outlets reported as many as 20 individuals were injured, but Reuters has not confirmed those reports.
Kristy DosReis, the city’s chief public information officer for public safety, declined to provide details on casualties.
“There have been multiple people shot,” DosReis said.
