President Trump plans more domestic travel to promote his economic agenda amid voter concerns over affordability and inflation.
WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump will increase domestic travel to promote his economic message following recent election setbacks for Republicans.
A White House official confirmed Thursday that Trump’s US trips “will continue to ramp up” as affordability concerns impacted GOP performance in state elections.
The administration is considering additional travel and speeches to improve Trump’s standing on economic issues, according to a CNN report.
Trump has faced pressure from conservative allies including Marjorie Taylor Greene to focus more on domestic matters rather than foreign policy.
“Cleaning up Joe Biden’s inflation and economic disaster has been a top focus for President Trump since Day One,” said White House spokesman Kush Desai.
Desai stated Trump was “implementing a robust economic agenda” to reduce prices on essentials like gasoline and eggs.
The administration recently announced a deal to lower prices for some weight-loss medications.
Trump dismissed suggestions he’s vulnerable on affordability despite Democratic gains in New Jersey, Virginia and New York City elections.
“The country has never been in better shape,” he declared Wednesday while signing legislation to end the longest government shutdown in US history.
He has recently proposed economic measures including a potential $2,000 dividend for Americans funded by his tariff policies.
Inflation has challenged multiple US presidents since the COVID-19 pandemic, with Biden also undertaking unsuccessful travel to convince Americans about his economic policies. – AFP
