UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomes the Cambodia-Thailand border ceasefire, calling it a positive step towards lasting peace and stability.
ISTANBUL: The United Nations chief has welcomed a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand that ended weeks of fighting along their border.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the agreement is “a positive step towards alleviating the suffering of civilians, ending current hostilities, and creating an environment conducive to achieving lasting peace.”
He also appreciated the efforts of ASEAN chair Malaysia, China and the US in supporting a peaceful resolution.
Guterres added that the UN “stands ready to support efforts aimed at sustaining peace and stability in the region.”
