Tottenham boss Frank insists he retains club’s backing after crisis talks

Under-fire Tottenham manager Thomas Frank says he retains the club’s trust after meeting with hierarchy, vowing to fight on amid poor results.

TOTTENHAM Hotspur manager Thomas Frank insisted he retains the support of the club’s hierarchy after holding crisis talks on Monday.

Frank’s future was reportedly discussed by Tottenham’s board following a dismal 2-1 home defeat to West Ham United on Sunday.

Fans jeered the manager and chanted “you’re getting sacked in the morning” during the match.

The Dane met with chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, sporting director Johan Lange and ownership group member Nick Beucher over lunch.

“I’ve just been feeling the trust along the way,” Frank told reporters ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund.

“I had lunch with Nick, Vinai and Johan today and it was all good.”

Frank, hired from Brentford just seven months ago, is under severe pressure due to Tottenham’s woeful form.

The West Ham loss was a third consecutive defeat and an eighth in the last 14 matches across all competitions.

Tottenham sit 14th in the Premier League and have been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions.

“Even the best manager in the world, Pep Guardiola, says ‘I am nothing without my players’ and it is fair to say they haven’t been available enough the whole time,” Frank said.

“But hey, no problem. I am happy to take the blame as long as everyone supports the players.”

He vowed to keep fighting to turn the club’s fortunes around and called for unity.

“If your back is against the wall, you fight. I am energetic and I fight,” Frank stated.

“It is not about me, we need to win football matches and we need to do that together.”

Fans have grown frustrated with Frank’s defensive, set-piece reliant style, a stark contrast to his predecessor Ange Postecoglou’s entertaining approach.

“It is not about me. It is about supporting the team. In this game, you always need resilience,” he added.

Frank’s problems are compounded by an injury crisis, leaving him with only 11 fit outfield players for the Dortmund clash.

“We are a little bit limited with the players available,” he admitted.

“We need everyone to support us from minute one. If we get that support, anything can happen. Magic can happen.” – AFP
