KBS minister clarifies Kuala Muda sports complex is not a new project

Youth and Sports Minister says the RM10 million Kuala Muda sports complex is a long-planned project, not a new allocation secured after he joined cabinet.

YOUTH and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari has clarified that the sports complex construction in Kuala Muda is not a new project.

He explained it was not a special allocation he secured after joining the cabinet.

Mohammed Taufiq stressed there has been no misuse of power in obtaining approval for it.

“This is a project I’ve been pushing for ever since I first became an MP,” he told a crowd at a New Year’s Eve event on Jalan Dua.

He said the project had been announced several times before and is now at the construction stage.

“The talks about this sports complex actually started back in 2023, right when I attended my first Parliamentary session.”

The minister mentioned meeting with youth and sports officers for input on needed facilities even before becoming an MP.

“I also raised this issue several times in Parliament,” he added.

This included a special session addressed by the then Deputy Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, for a project update.

“So, I was simply clarifying the status of an ongoing project, not announcing any new approval.”

Recent media reports stated an RM10 million sports complex will be built in Bandar Puteri Jaya.

The facility aims to provide more organised sports facilities for local youth.

Earlier at the event, he led a convoy of about 200 motorcycles to Tsunami Square in Kota Kuala Muda.

There, he mingled with residents and joined community sports activities.

He later visited a mosque to hand over RM45,000 for infrastructure upgrades.

Food baskets were also distributed to those in need at the mosque. – Bernama
