Malaysia Athletics is still evaluating athlete performances before setting SEA Games 2025 medal target, with announcement expected soon.
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Athletics has not yet determined its medal target for the SEA Games 2025 in Thailand next month.
MA President Datuk Karim Ibrahim said the organisation is still calculating the number of medals athletes could potentially win.
“We are currently assessing the performance of several national athletes who are still participating in competitions before the biennial games,” he told reporters.
Karim explained they are also evaluating athletes from competing countries like Thailand and Vietnam.
“We need to take the overall statistics into account before we arrive at a decision to announce the target.”
He confirmed MA will hold a press conference soon to announce the target and answer media questions.
The announcement came during a session where SEA Games 2025 Chef-de-Mission Nurul Huda Abdullah met with national athletics athletes.
A total of 28 male and 19 female athletes will represent Malaysia’s athletics squad at the games.
Meanwhile, Nurul Huda said the overall national contingent medal target will be announced at the flag handing-over ceremony on December 3.
The SEA Games 2025 is scheduled from December 9 to 20 across Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla provinces. – Bernama
