PM Anwar urges stronger sports prep after SEA Games success

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says Malaysia’s SEA Games achievement should inspire better preparation for future events like the 2027 Games

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says Malaysia’s achievement at the Thailand SEA Games should motivate stronger preparations for other major sports events.

He said this would ensure the country stays competitive and respected both regionally and internationally.

Anwar extended congratulations and appreciation to all athletes, coaches, and team officials for their discipline, sacrifices, and fighting spirit.

“This success is the result of high discipline, continuous sacrifices, and the unwavering fighting spirit of our athletes, coaches, and team officials in bringing honour to the nation on the regional stage,” he said in a Facebook post.

He added that preparations for Malaysia as the host of the 2027 SEA Games will be carried out comprehensively, systematically, and competently.

This effort will focus not only on infrastructure and organisation but also on building a sustainable sports ecosystem and producing world-class talent.

The Prime Minister also emphasised that sports are a platform for uniting people across races, regions, and backgrounds in a spirit of togetherness and national pride.

“This is the true strength of Malaysia that must continue to be nurtured and strengthened,” he said.

The 2025 SEA Games concluded on December 20.

Malaysia finished in fourth place with 57 gold, 57 silver, and 117 bronze medals.

Host Thailand topped the medal table with 233 gold, 154 silver, and 112 bronze medals.
