Madani government to prioritise cost of living and business ease

Malaysia’s Madani government will focus on easing the cost of living and simplifying business processes in 2026, as outlined at its annual retreat.

BANGI: The Madani government will focus on addressing the cost of living and simplifying business processes throughout this year.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said these were key priorities discussed at the 2026 Madani Government Retreat.

Fahmi, who is also the government spokesman, said the priority is to ensure the national economy remains on track.

He said the issues faced by the people, especially the cost of living or the ease of doing business, have become a key priority.

The retreat was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the full cabinet, and state government leaders.

Also present were Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor were also in attendance.

Fahmi said the government emphasised effective communication to ensure the people enjoy the outcomes of national stability.

“We can see today that the ringgit is at a very strong position,” he said at a press conference.

He added that investments are increasing and unemployment is at its lowest level in 14 years.

Fahmi said the government under Anwar’s leadership had proven the country was on the right track.

He said policies that enable the economy to improve must be translated into benefits for the people.

The presence of state leaders reflected the unity between the Federal Government and the states, he added.

“This is a very important signal that proves the unity of the Unity Government nationwide,” Fahmi said.

He added that the Prime Minister wanted the retreat’s outcomes translated into tangible programmes this year.
