AKPS director-general Mohd Shuhaily says the agency will not compromise on misconduct, warning that technology and social media make exposure inevitable.
PUTRAJAYA: Officers and personnel of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) must uphold the highest standards of integrity and avoid any involvement in abuse of power or corruption.
AKPS director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the agency will not compromise on any misconduct that could undermine its image and that of the country.
He said the widespread use of technology and social media makes it easier for any unethical behaviour to be detected and exposed publicly.
“We constantly remind AKPS officers not to be involved in any abuse of power or corruption, because there will always be eyes watching,” he told a press conference after a credentials presentation ceremony here.
He warned that strict action would be taken if such acts were recorded or exposed.
Mohd Shuhaily also stressed that every appointed AKPS commander must take responsibility for implementing meaningful transformations.
“Commanders must be practical and pragmatic in carrying out their duties,” he said.
He warned that remaining in offices without understanding ground realities leads to miscommunication and a lack of synchronisation between leadership and field personnel.
At the ceremony, Mohd Shuhaily presented letters of appointment to three new entry control commanders.
SAC Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal was appointed as the Port Klang entry control commander.
Diplomatic Administrative Officer Mohd Safrie Zakaria was appointed as the KLIA Terminal 1 entry control commander.
Customs Superintendent Farah Azura Mohd Shargawi was appointed as the Kuantan Port entry control commander.
Mohd Shuhaily said the appointments were based on the officers’ qualifications, experience and expertise in managing entry points.
He said 22 entry points nationwide are now under AKPS supervision following its official establishment in October 2024.
A total of seven entry control commander positions have been filled as of last year.
