JAKIM to block ‘Glamping with Pride’ event, police investigating

JAKIM and authorities will ensure the ‘Glamping with Pride’ event does not proceed, with police investigating five reports against the programme.

PUTRAJAYA: The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) will work with relevant authorities to ensure the ‘Glamping with Pride’ programme does not continue.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the department would leave the matter to the police for investigation.

“JAKIM will cooperate with all relevant authorities to monitor the situation and ensure that the organisers do not proceed with the programme,” he told reporters after delivering his New Year’s message.

He added that the Selangor Islamic Religious Department would take follow-up action in coordination with the police.

On Jan 10, JAKIM director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee said authorities were closely monitoring the programme’s organisation and would not compromise on efforts to normalise unnatural sexual practices.

He stated such acts constitute offences under Section 25 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997 and Sections 377A, 377B, 377C and 377D of the Penal Code.

Police have so far received five reports related to the advertisement of the programme scheduled for Jan 17 and 18 in Hulu Langat, Selangor.
