Minister Mohamad Sabu says Malaysia-US agro-food cooperation is growing positively, with talks covering trade, safety standards, and technology.
KUALA LUMPUR: Agricultural trade relations between Malaysia and the United States continue to grow positively, said Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
He said the MADANI Government remains committed to ensuring all cooperation undertaken accounts for national interests, food security and the sector’s long-term sustainability.
Mohamad said this after receiving a courtesy call from US Department of Agriculture Deputy Under Secretary Luke J. Lindberg and US Ambassador Edgard D. Kagan in Putrajaya.
“This meeting reflects the close bilateral ties enjoyed between Malaysia and the United States,” he stated in a Facebook post.
He added the talks focused on strengthening strategic cooperation in agriculture and food security.
Discussions covered agro-food trade, compliance with food safety standards, and the adoption of modern agricultural technology.
Potential areas of cooperation that could bring mutual benefits to farmers and industry players in both countries were also explored.
“Insya-Allah, these continued efforts will strengthen the national agro-food ecosystem and boost productivity,” Mohamad said.
He added the cooperation would contribute to the people’s well-being and national economic development.
