Kelantan immigration detains 25 undocumented foreign workers in raids

Immigration officers detained 25 undocumented immigrants in Kelantan operations at construction sites and factories for various immigration offences.

KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan Immigration Department detained 25 undocumented foreign nationals in a series of enforcement operations yesterday.

Deputy director Nik Akhtarulhaq Nik Abdul Rahman said the simultaneous operations, codenamed Op Sapu, Op Kutip and Op Mahir, were conducted in Kota Bharu and Bachok.

A total of 48 individuals, comprising locals and foreigners, were inspected at three business premises and construction sites beginning at noon.

“During the inspection, 25 foreign men were detained for various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963,” he said in a statement today.

The first raid at a construction site in Section 12, Kota Bharu, saw 11 foreign men detained after 32 people were checked.

Those arrests involved five Thai and three Bangladeshi nationals detained under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

Two Indonesian nationals were investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, with another Indonesian detained under Section 15(1)(c) of the same act.

The second operation at a furniture factory in Bachok led to the arrest of 12 Pakistani and Bangladeshi nationals for various immigration offences.

Nik Akhtarulhaq said the offences included violating permit conditions and entering the country without valid documents.

Two more Pakistani nationals were arrested at a third location, a furniture shop in Bachok, for allegedly violating Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act.

All detainees have been taken to the Immigration Depot for further action.

“Enforcement operations will continue from time to time to combat the presence of undocumented immigrants and ensure compliance with immigration laws,” he added. – Bernama
