KUCHING: AirBorneo has completed its Departure Control System (DCS) cutover and now operates under its own flight code, MY, marking a critical milestone in the airline’s transition to full operational independence.
In a statement, the Sarawak state-owned full-service airline said all flights previously operating under the MH series designation now display as MY series flights, formally establishing AirBorneo’s distinct identity across all 21 airports in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
The first flight operating under the MY code was from Miri to Labuan at 6.15am on Wednesday.
AirBorneo CEO Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin said the successful transition to DCS and the introduction of Flight MY3220 as its first service under the MY code is a testament to what can be achieved through collaborative leadership and shared vision.
“This milestone also lays critical groundwork for our next chapter, which is the launch of AirBorneo Jet Operations in July, strengthening our infrastructure, expanding our reach and enhancing the travel experience for our passengers,” he said.
According to the statement, the cutover represents one of the most significant operational achievements since AirBorneo began operations on Jan 2. It said the successful DCS migration enables AirBorneo to operate with full technical autonomy from MASwings’ systems.
“Airport check-in counters, baggage handling and all passenger-facing services continued normal operations throughout the transition period, with coordination maintained across airport operators and key stakeholders. The simultaneous deployment across 21 airports – serving rural communities including Twin Otter operations to remote airstrips – demonstrates AirBorneo’s operational readiness and technical capability,” it added. – Bernama
