Police in Kelantan have arrested five suspects linked to a car window-smashing and theft gang, solving eight cases across two states.
KOTA BHARU: Police have dismantled a gang suspected of car window-smashing and theft activities in Kelantan with the arrest of five individuals.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the case stemmed from a report on January 30 along a road near the Kampung Wakaf Berangan Cemetery in Pasir Puteh.
A police team from the state contingent headquarters conducted raids at three separate locations on January 31.
“As a result of the raid, police arrested three men, a local woman, and a Thai woman, aged between 32 and 55,” he said in a statement.
Police seized various items believed to be proceeds from criminal activities.
The seized items included 18 mobile phones, 11 wallets, 41 handbags and backpacks, seven pieces of jewellery, two watches, and two cars.
All suspects have been remanded for four days to assist with the investigation.
Mohd Yusoff said the arrests have resolved eight cases of car window smashing in Kelantan and Terengganu.
The estimated total loss from these eight cases is RM32,200.
The cases are being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
