Government to boost civil defence force for climate challenges

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi pledges to strengthen the Malaysian Civil Defence Force’s capacity and training to build national resilience against climate change and complex disasters.

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will continue to strengthen the capacity, training and preparedness of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) to build a more resilient nation against climate change and increasingly complex disaster risks.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that APM personnel are always among the first teams deployed during national disasters like floods, fires or landslides.

“They respond with full dedication, working hand in hand with other rescue agencies to extend assistance and ensure victims are kept safe,” he said in a Facebook post marking World Civil Defence Day.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, highlighted the deep national significance of the dedication and sacrifices made by civil defence personnel in safeguarding public safety and welfare.

He conveyed his appreciation to all APM personnel consistently at the forefront of disaster management, rescue operations and humanitarian assistance.

The Deputy Prime Minister concluded by expressing hope that the force would remain steadfast, credible and a strong line of defence for the people’s safety.
