Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek inspects Kedah schools’ flood readiness and SPM exam arrangements for monsoon season.
ALOR SETAR: Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek conducted a one-day working visit to Kedah to review preparations for the Northeast Monsoon and potential flood disasters.
She chaired a coordination meeting with Kedah Education Department top management and district education officers to plan for the monsoon season.
Preparations included arrangements for conducting the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination during flood situations in at-risk districts and schools.
Fadhlina inspected readiness at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tunku Abdul Malik, designated as a placement centre for SPM candidates during floods.
She also visited flood victims at Sekolah Kebangsaan Titi Haji Idris in Pendang, currently serving as a temporary relief centre.
A total of 128 victims remained housed at the relief centre as of this evening.
SMK Tunku Abdul Malik principal Faridah Derani said the school hostel had been vacated to accommodate flood-affected SPM candidates during examinations.
Seventy-four SPM candidates from this school are expected to be affected by floods and will use the vacated hostel facilities.
The school will also accept forty-five candidates from SMK Alor Merah who will sit for their SPM examinations at the facility.
Home-based teaching and learning will be implemented for Form One to Four students at SMK Tunku Abdul Malik during this period.
The Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported 665 flood victims still housed in four relief centres across Kota Setar and Pendang districts as of 4 pm today. – Bernama
