Flood evacuees in Perak and Kedah remain at relief centres

599 flood victims from 154 families are still housed at temporary relief centres in Perak and Kedah as river levels remain high.

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 599 flood evacuees from 154 families are still sheltering at temporary relief centres in Perak and Kedah this morning.

This figure shows a decrease from the 708 people recorded last night.

In Perak, the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat confirmed that 129 people from 35 families remain housed at the relief centre in Manjung district.

All these evacuees are from Kampung Padang Serai and are staying at Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for several Perak districts today.

The warning covers Kerian, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim.

Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage reported that Sungai Kinta has reached an alert level of 247.92 metres.

This reading is significantly higher than the river’s normal level of 243.50 metres.

In Kedah, the number of flood evacuees has decreased to 470 people from 119 families as of 8 am today.

The state had 579 evacuees from 156 families sheltering at relief centres last night.

Pendang district currently hosts the highest number of flood victims in Kedah.

A total of 405 people from 102 families are staying at three different relief centres in Pendang.

Kota Setar district has 65 evacuees from 17 families remaining at one relief centre. – Bernama
