Sudan’s prime minister calls for international prosecution of RSF atrocities in El-Fasher but rejects foreign troop deployment as illegal

GENEVA: Sudan’s prime minister has demanded that atrocities committed in the captured city of El-Fasher be prosecuted in international courts.

Kamil Idris firmly rejected the idea of deploying foreign troops to Sudan, describing the proposal as illegal in an interview with Switzerland’s Blick newspaper.

“The international community has done too little,” said Idris.

“We need acts, not just words. Every crime needs to be prosecuted in the courts — including at the international level.”

The Rapid Support Forces seized control of El-Fasher on October 26 after an eighteen-month siege involving bombardment and starvation.

Survivors have reported executions, pillaging, rape and other atrocities since the city’s capture, sparking international condemnation.

Idris urged all United Nations member states to designate the RSF as a terrorist organisation and to fight them accordingly.

The Sudanese premier stated his belief that UN peacekeeping missions would not be desirable for his country.

“International troops would undermine Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is illegal, would only increase confusion and would be counterproductive,” Idris added.

“The Sudanese army and people are determined to save and liberate El-Fasher.”

The fall of El-Fasher gave the RSF full control over all five state capitals in the Darfur region.

Paramilitaries have established a self-declared rival government in Darfur while the army holds Sudan’s north, east and centre.

The civil war has raised fears of another partition following South Sudan’s independence in 2011.
