Malaysia’s passport climbs to 3rd in the Global Passport Power Rank 2025, granting visa-free access to 174 destinations worldwide.
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians can now hold their heads – and passports – a little higher.
The country has officially climbed to third place in the Global Passport Power Rank 2025, putting it among the world’s most powerful travel documents.
According to the latest index by Arton Capital, the Malaysian passport boasts a Mobility Score of 174, unlocking visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 174 destinations worldwide.
That means Malaysians can breeze through borders in most parts of the globe, with only 24 countries still requiring a visa.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) continues to hold the crown as the world’s most powerful passport, while Singapore and Spain share the second spot. Malaysia now proudly shares third place with several top-tier nations – among them France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, Portugal and Switzerland.
In a Facebook post, the Immigration Department hailed the ranking as a reflection of growing international trust in Malaysia’s secure and reliable travel document.
“This achievement reflects the international recognition of Malaysia’s passport as one of the most secure and trusted in the world,” it said, calling the result a milestone for national pride.
Malaysia’s latest leap is particularly impressive, rising from eighth place last year to now stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Europe’s elite.
With a world reach of 87%, Malaysian travellers enjoy some of the broadest mobility rights across continents.
The Global Passport Power Rank measures how easily passport holders can enter countries without obtaining a visa in advance – and this year, Malaysia has clearly stamped its mark on the world stage.
