MENUMBOK: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) will announce its candidates for the 17th Sabah state election on Wednesday, November 12.
GRS chairman and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor confirmed the announcement date following the launch of the Kuala Penyu District and Menumbok Sub-District Development Strategic Plan 2025–2035.
Nomination day for the state election is scheduled for November 15.
Polling will take place on November 29 with early voting on November 25.
Hajiji stated that seat distribution among coalition members has already been completed.
He indicated that DAP and PKR from Pakatan Harapan plan to announce their candidates on November 8 and 9 respectively.
“We have already distributed the seats,” he said in a statement.
“So if they (DAP and PKR) want to announce theirs, they can do so, and we will make our announcement later.”
Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi previously stated his party would announce candidates about a week before nomination day.
Hajiji expressed confidence in GRS’s ability to continue governing Sabah after the election.
He emphasised the coalition is fielding only winnable candidates across all constituencies.
“We are confident of winning this election,” Hajiji stated.
“If we win, we will continue implementing the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 development roadmap for the continuity of development programmes in Sabah.”
The chief minister specifically mentioned having hinted at the candidate for Kuala Penyu constituency during his recent visit. – Bernama
