Gagasan Rakyat will support its former leaders contesting under PKR in the Sabah state election as both parties are part of the Unity Government.
KOTA KINABALU: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah will support its two former leaders contesting under PKR in the 17th Sabah state election.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the decision made by Datuk Jamawi Jaafar and Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin was their democratic right.
“Of course, it is their democratic right to choose the party they want to contest under,” he told reporters after witnessing an MoU signing between the Sabah Government and Maybank.
Hajiji, who is Gagasan Rakyat president and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah chairman, said every individual has the freedom to choose their party.
He said such decisions reflect healthy democratic practices in Sabah’s unique political landscape.
The move does not pose any issue for GRS or Gagasan Rakyat since PKR is part of the Unity Government.
Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced yesterday that Jamawi will contest in Melalap while Hiew will stand in Karamunting. – Bernama
