Contractors cheated victims over traffic summons payments by two women impersonating police officers.
KUANTAN: Two female contractors have been fined RM8,000 each for impersonating police officers to cheat a woman.
Nor Farahanis Mohammad Hanizam, 31, and Noor Afiqah Aman Shah pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ellyna Othman to two counts of cheating by posing as police officers.
The court imposed a RM4,000 fine for each charge, with a six-month jail term if they fail to pay.
Both women deceived a 53-year-old victim into paying RM400 and RM250 to settle her son’s traffic summons.
The offences occurred on October 3 and October 10 along Jalan Kuantan-Kemaman in Balok Permai.
They were charged under Section 419 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Firdaus Ahmad Mokhlis prosecuted, while lawyers Farah Atiqah Asruddin and Mohd Azahari Matiasin from the National Legal Aid Foundation represented the accused.
In a separate case, both women pleaded not guilty to three counts of impersonating police officers to obtain money from a man for a khalwat case settlement.
They allegedly deceived a 22-year-old man into making three payments totalling RM1,749.
The offences were committed between July 9 and September 2 in Sungai Karang and Gebeng.
Magistrate Tengku Eliana Tuan Kamaruzaman set bail at RM6,500 each and fixed December 11 for mention.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Nabilla Huda Jasmani appeared for the prosecution, while Nurul Syafiqa Syeba Atan of YBGK represented the accused. – Bernama
