Traditional attire brings festive spirit to Sabah election nominations

Sabah election nomination day featured vibrant traditional costumes from Dusun, Kadazan and other ethnic groups, creating a festival atmosphere.

KOTA KINABALU: Nomination day for the Sabah state election transformed into a colourful cultural celebration as candidates and supporters arrived in traditional attire.

The vibrant scenes unfolded across all 25 nomination centres during the one-hour nomination period starting at 9 am.

Warisan candidate Lucia Kihing, 49, made her entrance at the Nabawan District Council Multipurpose Hall in traditional Dusun Lobu dress for the Tulid state seat.

STAR candidate Suling Isib, 43, similarly captured attention at Dewan Perdana in Lahad Datu wearing traditional Dusun Begak community attire.

In Tawau, Pakatan Harapan supporters at the SRJK (C) Yuk Cin nomination centre showcased various Sabah ethnic costumes.

Papar’s Membakut Islamic Arts Hall saw supporters and proposers in Kadazan-Dusun traditional attire accompanying their candidates.

Barisan Nasional supporters Joseph Mojumi and Hableen @ Marciana Lawrence were among those displaying cultural heritage.

Tuaran’s Dewan Seri Sulaman nomination centre featured an additional spectacle with two blue lion dance costumes.

Dewan Seri Sulaman served as the nomination centre for Sulaman, Pantai Dalit, Tamparuli and Kiulu state seats.

The nomination process concluded at 10 am, marking the start of the 14-day campaign period until November 28.

Polling for the 73 state seats is scheduled for November 29 with early voting on November 25. – Bernama
