Four federal deputy ministers contest in Sabah state election

Four federal deputy ministers are among 596 candidates contesting 73 seats in Sabah’s 17th state election with polling set for November 29

KOTA KINABALU: Four federal deputy ministers are contesting in the 17th Sabah State Election, which features 596 candidates vying for 73 state seats.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup is contesting the Sook seat on a Barisan Nasional ticket.

The PBRS president faces a five-cornered fight against incumbent Datuk Ellron Angin, who previously won with a 1,232-vote majority.

Deputy Minister of Plantations and Commodities Datuk Chan Foong Hin is challenging for the Tanjung Aru seat in a nine-cornered contest.

The Sabah DAP chairman, contesting under Pakatan Harapan, faces incumbent Datuk Junz Wong who previously won with a 3,147-vote majority.

Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin is contesting the Bongawan seat in a nine-cornered fight.

The Kimanis MP faces Warisan vice-president Dr Daud Yusof, who previously won the seat with a 1,802-vote majority.

Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Mohammad Yusof Apdal is contesting the Silam seat in an eight-cornered contest.

The Warisan candidate and Lahad Datu MP seeks to retain the seat previously held by his party colleague with a 1,542-vote majority.

Former minister Datuk Ewon Benedick is defending his Kadamaian seat in an eight-cornered contest.

The UPKO president previously won the seat with a 3,459-vote majority in the last state election.

The Election Commission has set November 29 as polling day for the 17th State Election.

Early voting will take place on November 25. – Bernama
