Sabah state election sees prominent singer Ampal, footballer Henry Soimpon and other arts and sports figures contesting multiple seats
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah state election nomination process featured several prominent arts and sports figures entering the political arena.
Renowned Sabahan singer and actor Abu Bakar Ellah, popularly known as Ampal, is contesting the Kuamut seat on the Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) ticket.
He faces an eight-cornered fight against candidates from UPKO, PIS, GRS, PPRS, Warisan, and two independents.
Veteran Kadazandusun singer John Samud will represent KDM in the battle for the Tempasuk seat.
He faces a seven-cornered contest involving candidates from GRS, PKS, BN, PIS, Warisan and STAR.
Former Sabah football player and team manager Henry Soimpon has emerged as the KDM candidate for the Kiulu state seat.
The constituency features an eight-way contest including candidates from GRS–PBS, PKS, Anak Negeri, Warisan, UPKO, PIS and STAR.
Former Sabah football star Jekerison Kilan is contesting the Nabawan seat, also representing KDM.
He faces a nine-way battle against candidates from UPKO, BN, Warisan, GRS, PKS, PIS, STAR and PN.
Former RTM Kota Kinabalu news presenter Francis Fahir is contesting the Pantai Dalit seat for STAR.
