Water park in Johor Bahru closes for cleaning after hygiene breach

MBJB Water Park shuts for two days after viral photos show excrement near pool, prompting a cleanliness drive and public appeal from the Johor Menteri Besar.

JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) Water Park is closed for two days starting today for cleaning and maintenance.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the temporary closure was necessary due to irresponsible actions by some visitors who failed to maintain cleanliness.

He stated the popular facility was developed by the state government and MBJB to provide a free, quality recreational space for all Johor residents.

It is deeply regrettable that some individuals let their children defecate in the area, he added.

“This act not only pollutes the environment, but can also affect the health of other visitors, especially children,” Onn Hafiz said in a Facebook post.

The closure follows several photos that went viral on social media showing excrement near the recreational pool.

The Menteri Besar advised all visitors to cooperate by taking care of public facilities, particularly the ‘Kids Pool’ area.

“Let us set a good example, educate them on the importance of maintaining cleanliness, respecting public facilities and being sensitive to the comfort of others,” he urged.

He added that instilling these values will help shape a more civilised and responsible future generation.

The water park is located within the City Forest (Hutan Bandar) recreational area.

About 4,500 people visited the City Forest on its opening day, according to a previous statement by Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor.
