Health Ministry bans ASGG Gluta Genc Glow Gummies over illegal ingredient

MOH bans ASGG Gluta Genc Glow Gummies for containing prohibited glutathione, with sellers facing fines up to RM100,000 or 10 years imprisonment

PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry (MOH) has banned the sale and advertising of ASGG Gluta Genc Glow Gummies after the product was found to contain Glutathione, an ingredient not permitted for use in food under Malaysian law.

In a statement today, MOH said monitoring by its Food Safety and Quality Programme (FSQP) detected that the product violated the Food Regulations 1985, which only allow nutrients listed under the Twelfth Schedule to be added to food items. Glutathione is not among the approved nutrients.

MOH added that any product containing Glutathione must instead be registered with the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), as it is regulated as a pharmaceutical ingredient rather than a food additive.

“As this substance is not permitted in food, the product cannot be sold and cannot be advertised for sale,” the ministry said.

The product was found to be sold widely on online platforms including Shopee, Lazada and TikTok.

As of November 10, the ministry has submitted 121 requests to these e-commerce platforms to remove advertisements for the product.

Under Section 13B(2)(d) of the Food Act 1983, it is an offence to mix food with substances not authorised by law. Offenders can face fines of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of up to 10 years, or both.

MOH has instructed all retailers, including online sellers, to immediately halt sales of the product and contact their nearest District Health Office for seizure procedures.

All advertising channels — including e-commerce platforms and social media — must also remove related promotions.

Consumers currently using the product have been advised to stop immediately and seek medical advice if necessary.

The ministry also urged the public to remain cautious when purchasing food products that may contain unapproved substances.

Members of the public may report food safety concerns to any District Health Office or State Health Department, or lodge complaints through the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA) and the Food Safety and Quality Programme’s official Facebook page.
