Work colleagues caught in JB apartment raid after days of JAINJ surveillance

Johor religious officers detain a married man and a single mother, both colleagues, for suspected khalwat following a tip-off and days of surveillance.

PETALING JAYA: A married man and a single mother were detained by religious enforcement personnel after being suspected of khalwat at an apartment in Johor Bahru in a recent operation.

The raid, carried out at about 3am, was conducted by officers from the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) following a public tip-off and several days of surveillance prior to action being taken at the location.

According to a Sinar Harian, upon arrival, officers conducted checks after the apartment door was opened by a teenage boy who was inside the unit.

“Enforcement officers identified themselves and requested the occupants’ cooperation before carrying out further inspection of the premises,” a statement by JAINJ said.

The inspection found an adult man in a room with a woman who was neither his wife nor a mahram (a close relative with whom marriage is prohibited).

Both individuals were then asked to explain their presence in the residence.

“The man and woman were found alone together in a room under circumstances that raised suspicion and initial investigations revealed that they are not husband and wife,” the statement added.

It is understood that the man, in his 30s, is married with children, while the woman is a single mother and believed to be his colleague.

“The case is being investigated under Section 27 of the Johor Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment for suspected khalwat,” the statement added.
