A 32-year-old suspect remains in custody after police extended his remand in connection with the stabbing of a woman in a car at Jalan Titi Gajah.

ALOR SETAR: Police have extended until Wednesday the remand of a suspect who allegedly stabbed a woman inside a car in Jalan Titi Gajah here.

Kota Setar police chief ACP Syed Basri Syed Ali said the extension was granted following the expiry today of the initial seven-day remand period, which began on May 18.

“The victim is reported to be in stable condition and has regained consciousness (but remains hospitalised),” he said in a statement today.

The 35-year-old victim suffered serious neck injuries after she was allegedly stabbed by a 32-year-old male acquaintance outside a restaurant at 9.19 pm on May 17.

In a separate case, Syed Basri said the suspect who tried to abduct a Form Two schoolgirl in Pekan Simpang Kuala here on May 13 has yet to be arrested.

In the 8.26 pm incident, the student escaped from a motorcyclist who attempted to kidnap her in an alley near a tuition centre.
