One fisherman drowned while five others survived after their boat capsized near Pulau Sayak, with the body sent for post-mortem.
SUNGAI PETANI: One fisherman drowned while five others survived after their boat capsized near Pulau Sayak at noon today.
Kuala Muda District Police Chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan, when contacted, confirmed receiving information about the 12.10 pm incident.
“All of them are local fishermen, and all the victims have been brought ashore via Tanjung Dawai. The deceased was 27 years old, while the five survivors are aged between 25 and 35,” he said.
He added that the body of the fisherman has been sent to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) for a post-mortem.
“Meanwhile, the five survivors were given treatment at Tanjung Dawai before being confirmed to have sustained no injuries,” he said.
Meanwhile, it is understood that during the incident, all the fishermen involved were on their way back to Tanjung Dawai after netting fish in the waters off Batu Maung, Penang.
