Umno vice-president says it’s premature to discuss coalition government if BN fails to win Sabah majority, decision will come after polls
JOHOR BAHRU: Barisan Nasional will only decide on potential coalition cooperation if it fails to win a simple majority in the Sabah state election after polling day.
UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said it remains too early to determine any political partnerships before the November 29 election.
“Wait until the Sabah polls are over,” he told reporters during his visit to the EcoCeres Plant at Tanjung Langsat Port.
Johari was responding to questions about whether BN would join forces with other parties if unable to form the state government independently.
BN is contesting 45 of the 73 available seats with 81% new candidates, including many professionals and youth representatives.
Polling is scheduled for November 29 with early voting occurring tomorrow.
When asked about BN’s prospects in Johor, Johari highlighted the state’s strong performance under the party’s leadership.
He credited political stability and consistent policies for attracting significant investment to Johor.
The state has experienced rapid growth through data centre development and recently secured RM800 million from a US-based equipment supply company.
“BN deserves support because investors see Johor as very stable with consistent policies,” Johari said.
BN secured a two-thirds majority in the 2022 Johor State Election, winning 40 of 56 contested seats. – Bernama
