MPs urged to wear orange against gender violence

MPs are encouraged to wear orange attire or accessories in parliament to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

KUALA LUMPUR: Members of Parliament have been urged to wear orange attire or accessories during Monday’s Dewan Rakyat sitting.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said the initiative demonstrates solidarity with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

“This is also a symbol of the Malaysian Parliament’s solidarity in efforts to address violence against women,” he said before the winding-up session for the committee-stage debate on the Supply Bill 2026.

Johari encouraged all members to wear orange clothing or accessories like neckties to show support for the cause.

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is observed annually on November 25.

The day aims to raise global awareness about ending all forms of violence against women and girls.
